hold out a clenched fist in front of an entire class and had it
whacked with a plastic ruler, for some time and with some vigour
by a nun, because she threw her hat out of a window to see how it
would glide. She doesn`t explain any other punishments that were
used, but one of my site contributors recalls a newspaper article

my mother, and it was the most horrendous place. It was the kind
of place where they beat you.
